Essential Responsibilities:
• Serves as the point of contact with enrolled students, following up when students miss appointments, classes, or study sessions. Identifies potential problems affecting attendance and notifies a Center Manager.
• Offers students encouragement and support.
• Provides technical assistance to students and tutors using computerized programs. Oversees sign-in procedures and prepares monthly traffic reports.
• Provides information about programs and refers students to other BSH sites and programs if necessary.
• Provides general administrative support to management staff.
• Assists in the orientation, registration, and placement of prospective students and tutors, including those using computerized, self-study programs.
• Assists in supporting the vision and culture of BSH.
• Prepares classrooms before classes and breaks down classrooms at the end of classes. Closes and locks up the building after classes.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Proficiency in both languages must include written and oral communication.
• Willingness to travel to/from BSH locations.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic work environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision.
• Solid written and oral communication skills and excellent phone manners.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a clerical, office, and classroom setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, textbooks, etc.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part-time evening position. Hours are 4 – 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

POSITION SUMMARY
United Way of the Lowcountry (UWLC) is seeking a talented, self-directed PR & Communications Manager to super-charge our outward-facing public relations and communications efforts. This position brings our mission to life - gathering stories, creating compelling content, managing key publication projects and cultivating strong media relationships that elevate UWLC’s impact and voice in the community. The PR & Communications Manager is responsible for communication efforts that inspire and motivate stakeholders to INVEST IN SELF-SUFFICIENCY, GET INVOLVED, and TAKE ACTION toward achieving UWLC’s mission and bold community goals.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing Planning and Strategy
•Create and execute an integrated marketing and communications plan that includes public relations, digital and print media, events, and other awareness strategies across all departments.
•Align communications strategies with organizational goals and annual priorities.

Brand Voice & Content Management
•Create, maintain, and update the organization’s Internal Style Guide with bi-annual reviews.
•Serve as the organization lead for electronic newsletters, content curation, and digital media.
•Create content calendar, write, edit and proofread article content for organizational electronic newsletters, digital platforms, and website.
•Collaborate with other departments for content ideas and stories.
•Oversee and/or support development of communications materials in collaboration with the broader team, ensuring consistency with UWLC’s brand voice and messaging based on United Way Worldwide brand guidelines and membership agreement.
•Draft scripts and talking points and presentation decks for staff and presenters for community and donor events ensuring accuracy of data, consistency with brand voice and key messaging points.

Storytelling
•A strong writer who is not afraid to seek out a story resulting in concise and compelling content that engages and inspires the audience.
•Interview families whose lives are improved by UWLC programs, volunteers, donors, agency partners, and community stakeholders.
•Articulate UWLC’s impact work using outcome data in compelling ways that inspire action and investment.
•Capture and curate visual storytelling through photography, videography and/or imagery.
•Serve as editor in-chief by coordinating with others to develop, copyedit and optimize content for appropriate channels.

Public Relations and Media Management
•Create and execute a proactive public relations strategy to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation.
•Serve as primary media contact for the organization, responding to inquiries coordinating interviews and crafting press releases, op-eds and media statements promoting UWLC initiatives, investments, partnerships, grant funding, and signature events (including ALICE data releases, Annual Meeting, Women United Events, VITA, Showers of Dignity and other events).
•Assist staff with preparation for interviews or live media appearances by refining messages and explaining the process and procedures for the media opportunity and more.
•Update and maintain current Media Contact list and track earned media coverage.

Event Planning & Execution
•Serve as staff lead in all events including Annual Meeting, Secession Golf Tournament, Palmetto Bluff Donor Event, and others.
•Manage and maintain those vendor relationships related to events including facility management, caterers, bartenders, and musicians.

Publication/Collateral Management
•Scope, plan, and manage production timelines for organizational publications and collateral, including fundraising materials, impact reports, community goal tracking reports, and case for support.
•Manage the end-to-end production – layout, design, editing, approvals, printing, and distribution – working with internal staff, contractors, and external vendors as needed.
•Prioritize, schedule, respond to and perform work associated with marketing requests from internal clients while maintaining quality and brand consistency.

Additional Responsibilities
•Ensure consistent use of approved brand identity guidelines throughout organization and monitor application fidelity.
•Collaborate with staff, share resources and work product for coordinated messages.
•Participates as a champion, project lead, and/or member of organizational development teams as required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
•Minimum of 3 years work experience in public relations, marketing, communications, or related role.
•3 years of project management experience preferred.
•Proficiency with AP Style standards for media relations efforts.
•Experience writing for fundraising and stewardship – using best practice principles.
•Experience with layout software like Canva or Adobe InDesign preferred.
•Proficiency with mass email marketing platforms such as Levitate, Mailchimp or Constant Contact
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
•Excellent writing, editing, verbal, and presentation skills.
•Have a passion for UWLC’s mission and commitment to community impact
•Bring energy, creativity, and a sense of fun to the role.
•Valid South Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record

Bilingual Client Advocate

Bluffton Self Help is seeking a compassionate Bilingual Client Advocate to join our team and support neighbors on their journey from vulnerability to self-sufficiency. Working both independently and collaboratively, the Client Advocate builds trusting relationships with clients and provides emotional support, practical guidance, and resource navigation to help them achieve personal and financial stability. Reporting to the Senior Client Advocate, this role plays a key part in delivering direct services and referrals using BSH’s internal programs and external partner resources.

Key Responsibilities:

-Reflect the Bluffton Self Help’s mission and values in a professional style and personal actions.
-Maintain a thorough understanding of Bluffton Self Help programs and services, as well as the community resources available to our neighbors in Beaufort and Jasper Counties.
-Collaboratively working with Senior Client Advocate and case management team to implement action plans to improve our advocacy program and meet the organization’s strategic goals, while ensuring services are delivered consistently and smoothly.
-Use a strategic and solutions-focused approach to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, and support clients in overcoming barriers.
-Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with clients through empathetic, culturally sensitive engagement.
-Facilitate clear and effective communication among clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders to ensure a positive and seamless experience.
-Maintain and develop proficiency in utilizing BSH’s case management system, Caseworthy, and maintain and record client notes, meetings, progress, and success stories in a timely manner. Track neighbors’ progress while evaluating additional needs.
-Assess the effectiveness of services provided for clients and advocate or assist in the development of new services as needed.
-Participate in staff meetings, outreach initiatives, trainings, and community events to represent and strengthen BSH’s advocacy efforts.
-Conduct client intake and assessments to identify needs and connect clients to appropriate services and resources.
-Provide peer support, guided resource access, and advocacy for all clients served.
-Assist with data collection and analysis to inform program development and improve outcomes.
-Take on additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned in a growing organization.

Qualifications:

Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required.
Minimum five years of client-facing experience.
Degree in social work, human services, or related field.
The ideal candidate has case management experience in a non-profit organization.
An understanding of and passion for Bluffton Self Help’s mission and vision.
Excellent time management and organizational skills and results-oriented work ethic.
Ability to set priorities, lead, initiate, and work collaboratively and with a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Positive attitude, concern for people and community, and exceptional listening skills.
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, case management software, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
Display effective leadership among staff, volunteers and donors.
Must possess strong project management skills, interpersonal skills, positive relationship building internally and externally.
Willingness to travel to/from BSH locations.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion.
