The Facilities Supervisor works independently under the direction of the Public Works Director. Oversees the City of Beaufort’s maintenance to all City facilities and their grounds. Also plans, schedules, evaluates, supervises, and participates in the record keeping, maintenance, repair, and construction of City owned and maintained facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, managing and directing work, counseling, and completing employee evaluations; assists with interviews and hiring recommendations.
• Coordinates, prepares, and processes required reports and documentation appropriate to the departmental needs; maintains and updates manuals and records.
• Acts as Directors primary representative for review and evaluation of facilities contracts, plans presented from public and outside agencies for facilities projects.
• Inventories, reports, and makes recommendations as to the needs of the Facilities Department to the Public Works Director regarding requisitions for equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Prepares the direction of duties to facilities staff, verifying performance of assignments and quality of completed work. Supervisory duties include maintaining standards, coordinating work activities, and acting on employee issues.
• Reviews the work of subordinates, monitors status of work in progress and inspects for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice, and assistance as needed.
• Responsible for the record keeping regarding facilities and their preventative maintenance schedules. Along with assisting with the cities work order system.
• Supervises and assists with general maintenance work, including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, hvac, mechanical, etc.
• Requires the ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control a variety of equipment including but not limited to skid steers, mini excavators, non CDL dump truck, pickup trucks, and trailers. To include proper loading and unloading of equipment.
• Observes, and assures compliance of assigned staff, with all applicable safety rules and regulations. Reports any violations to the Public Works Safety Officer or the Public Works Director.
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, sales representatives, advisory boards, contractors, and the public.
• Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, laws, and regulations.
• Supervises the repair and maintenance on Facilities vehicles, equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
• Supervises and assists with the general custodial duties to maintain clean and sanitary public restrooms and facilities throughout City owned/maintained facilities.
• Supervises and coordinates work orders, prioritizes and schedules projects, determines necessary equipment and materials to conduct project, lays out the job site, and responds to emergency situations.
• Maintains an awareness of new equipment, methods, trends, and advances in the profession. Attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or his/her designee.
• Subject to recall for emergency and designated “remain-behind” personnel in the event of a natural disaster.
• Required to schedule and oversee the work provided by city contractors, constantly maintaining an open line of communication.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by five (5) years of management experience in facilities maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid South Carolina driver's license required.
SALARY RANGE: $53,823.25-$69,510.17
