Construction Supervisor

SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, manages field staff for construction functions of BJWSA Capital Improvement and private development-related projects in collaboration with the Section Leader. Coordinates activities between contractors, developers and BJWSA personnel to ensure projects are constructed on schedule, within budget, with minimal problems and in accordance with the plans, specifications, and approved shop drawing submittals.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Duties will include both office environment and at a construction site as a part of delivering above requirements. Split of time may be assumed to be near 20% office & 80% construction site.
Provides construction oversight of private development, municipal and capital improvement projects for BJWSA through effective coordination of activities to ensure projects are constructed as required by BJWSA technical specifications, approved drawings, details, standards, materials, and policies.
Coordinates acceptance and start-up of newly constructed facilities with BJWSA, owner, contractor, local permitting agencies and DHEC.
Reviews record drawings with engineers and BJWSA personnel with eye for compliance and to ensure required data is furnished and is accurate.
Ensures inspection staff are compliant with departmental policies related to communication, daily inspection reports, on-site documentation, punch-lists, record drawings, close-outs, and use of assigned software for project updates and reporting.
Performs various supervisory duties in managing subordinate staff member’s activities to include instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards and guidelines through the proper coordination of activities, allocating personnel appropriately, coordinating appropriate training, and actively participates in staff development.
Monitors safety and security policies and recommends changes when needed.
Responsible for a leadership role in the training and development of BJWSA inspection staff.
For approximately 6-weeks each year, will be a part of the in-office land development design review team responsible for issuing construction permits.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Prefer Degree in civil or mechanical engineering or related field. Minimum of three years’ experience in engineering or construction related functions and project management required. Must possess extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of construction administration as applied to water, wastewater and general construction projects. Prefer experience managing, mentoring, training, and developing staff. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Professional Engineer preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
